In 2016 Aanchal graduated Kent State University, OH with a BFA in Fashion Design. Over the course of four years she gained skills in fashion illustration, draping, pattern-making, print design, basic hand-loom weaving, surface design (dyeing and embellishments), and tech pack development.
Aanchal’s senior project, Purple Haze, was inspired by the Woodstock Music & Art Festival. The garments primarily incorporated sustainable fabrics that were hand-dyed, along with hand-woven panels. Certain sections also included digitally created psychedelic florals.
Diego Montoya | June 2018
In June 2018 Aanchal assisted Costume Designer Diego Montoya as a freelance design assistant to create outfits for multiple Drag Queens, for "RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 10 Finale episode and Pride Week 2018. Tasks included hand sewing, machine sewing and embellishments for these custom outfits, along with a team of assistants. Outfits were created for Sasha Velour, Kameron Michaels, and Eureka O’Hara.
Bibhu Mohapatra | 2014-2017
Over the course three years, Aanchal worked for a variety of departments under designer Bibhu Mohapatra, as an intern and as a freelance design assistant. Overall, she assisted with tasks leading up to five New York Fashion Week shows for the brand.
Assisted the Designer and the Assistant Designer with trend research; draping and initial designing process; digitally manipulating print designs; embroidery layout development; copying and making patterns; light sewing, including working with leather and fur; as well as the New York Fashion Week runway show.
Assisted the Public Relations team with sample loans; preparing look books; managing press archives; in-house photoshoots; and merchandising the showroom.
Assisted the Sales & Production teams with preparing line sheets.
The Fashion Design Council of India | 2013
In July-August 2013 Aanchal interned with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) for the PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013. Primary tasks during fashion week included handling social media platforms for FDCI and taking photographs of the runway shows, backstage activity, and the model fittings with the designers. The week leading up to the fashion also included multiple administrative tasks.
Participating designers included Anamika Khanna, Anju Modi, Gaurav Gupta, Manish Arora, Manish Malhotra, Masaba Gupta, Ritu Beri, Sabyasachi, and Varun Bahl.
